NRCA member hosts students for educational opportunity

October was National Manufacturing Month, and students in Sumter County Schools in Florida participated in activities to explore the manufacturing field and learn about expanding job opportunities in manufacturing in their region, according to a Sumter County Schools press release.

On Oct. 22, about 60 students from South Sumter High School, South Sumter Middle School and Wildwood Middle High School visited NRCA member Eagle Roofing Products Florida LLC, Lake Panasoffkee, Fla. Eagle Roofing Products Florida LLC is a regional manufacturer of concrete roof tiles and recently upgraded its Sumter County facility to use automation and robotics in the fabrication process.

Students enrolled in manufacturing, robotics and construction programs of study witnessed first-hand the real-world application of skills they are developing in the classroom. They observed the use of modern manufacturing technology in creating manufactured concrete roof tiles and met with business associates and employers. Students also learned about the safety protocols required in the manufacturing workplace and the benefits of automation.

In addition, the visit allowed students to explore opportunities for local high-skill, high-wage jobs that may be of interest as they approach high school graduation.
